Character Synopsis

We are introduced to Maya on the event of a couple's wedding. Among the crowd, a young man mistook her from behind, thinking she was someone else. After a couple seconds pause, she expressed her embarrassment, as she felt bad for being mistaken for someone else. But the meeting is cut short as the speechless fellow quickly walked away.
In the chapel as Rook is about to take the next victim for his latest "time play" game, Maya quickly interrupted. As Rook easily recognized her, Maya chided him for still playing his games. Still wanting to continue with his game, Rook reluctantly claimed that he is free to do as he wanted. However Maya stated that this situation was something that she needed to take care of. Rook not wanting to defy her, withdrawed. Saying that he'd back off only because she was Queen of the Checkmate Four.
Turning her attention to the newlywed bride, Queen mentioned her disgust for a Fangire falling in love with a human. Walking out into the courtyard after the bride, she stated that those who integrate with humanity would not be forgiven. With that said, she turned day into night with a blood red full moon right above. Removing her left glove, she merely directed her hand towards the disgraced Fangire, revealing her Queen tattoo on her palm, and unleashed a wave of immense energy. Destroying the Fangire and returning to day, only to vanish into thin air, leaving behind flower pedals in her wake.
Sometime later, Maya's attention was turned this time to Takeuchi Shinji, the Grizzly Fangire. After bringing up the consequences for Fangires in love with humans, Shinji openly defied it, swearing that he'd escape her until the heavens strike her down. Yet despite his intentions, they were futile. After stating that even if she were to die that another Fangire would take the mantle of Queen after her, Shinji reverted to his true form. But after he did so, the man from before came charging in, tossing a bike at Shinji as he believed Maya was in danger, allowing Shinji to escape. While he laughed in pride of what he believed to be his latest triumph, Maya was also laughing at the ridiculousness of the man. After he asked why she was laughing, she pointed out how "the prince came to save the damsel in distress". But after asking if she was happy with that, she slapped him. Demanding to know why, she simply answered that she was meerely returning the favor and walked away.
Sometime later, after eliminating another traitor to the Fangires, Maya noticed the man from the church walking through an underground walkway. As he tried to remember how many times they had met already, Maya thus far counted four. After he proclaimed that the first time was a coincidence, the second a miracle, third was inevitable and the fourth was destiny, he claimed that he was sorry to say that he had already found his woman of destiny. Shortly after, the man abruptly took her hand and they started running.
Running out into the open and finding a place to hid, the man claimed that she was being targeted by someone. Curious as to why someone would attack the likes of herself, the man remarked that attractive woman commonly are wanted, but he reassured her that he'd protect her. Curious even further, Maya asked why he would do that even if he might get hurt. But after he answered that creatures such as men were just like that, their pursuer had apparently found them and continued his chase.

Still running, the predator had slowed the two down a bit, but luckily the man was armed and fired back at their pursuer. Taking advantage of the time bought, the two got to their feet and ran into a nearby parking lot building. After handing his violin case to Maya, the man went off to see if they had been followed. But soon enough, Maya caught eye of her pursuer, Rook. Surprising him, she inquired if he was still playing another game. But still too interested in her encounter with the man, she really didn't mind Rook's latest game. In fact, she encouraged him to continue, wanting to know why her prey found humans so special. After the man came back, she ran to his side. when he recalled that he didn't catch her name, she told him it. After introducing himself as Kurenai Otoya, he activated IXA and engaged Rook.
Unfortunately for Otoya, he was easily dominated by Rooks superior abilities. After further watching as Otoya acted as a punching bag for Rook, IXA reached it's overheating point. After finding him in a warehouse, Maya stayed with him until he came to. When he did, he couldn't help but wonder where he was. After Maya asked if he was alright, he claimed that he didn't know. But when he asked who she was, he then asked who he was instead. When Maya asked if he really didn't remember anything, he recalled that he at least knew that he loved a woman named Yuri. After a seconds pause, Maya then claimed that she was Yuri. After he had tried to remember about how he knew her, Rook then appeared to finish his game. As he walked in, Maya told Otoya to run. When he was out of sight, she then told Rook that his game was over.
A little later after she found him hiding, she brought him his violin case. After she claimed that it was what he always carrying around with him, Otoya took the instrument out and started to play it. After he played, it became apparent that he remembered something. A promise he made to Yuri to find the her ring at Saehama Beach.
Later on when they arrived at the beach, he started preparing to go into the water. When She asked what he was doing. Otoya told her that he was about to fulfill the promise he made to her. After diving into the ocean, he swam to the bottom. Shortly after, she noticed a woman coming onto the beach calling out Otoya's name. Curious, Maya approached the woman, asking if she was Yuri. After Yuri confirmed her identity, Maya insisted on knowing why people fall in love. After Yuri explained that when people love and be loved, they can go about living, facing every day one at a time ready for what's in store, she goes into the water after Otoya when she noticed him. As Maya watched the two on the beach after Yuri had pulled Otoya out of the water, she couldn't help but comment on how interesting of creatures Humans were.
Sometime later after asking Otoya to play his violin for her while the artist, Tanahashi, was painting a portrait of her, Maya was growing impatient little by little, much to Tanahashi's dismay. As Maya expressed some doubt in Tanahashi's abilities, saying that she'd determine if he was someone blessed by a muse, Otoya vouched for her proclamation due to an earlier comment of his skills. As Tanahashi was called away, Otoya remarked oh how he was glad that he finally met a woman who so fond of the fine arts. Feeling somewhat bad for him, Maya asked Otoya if that up until then, no one had been able to understand him. Yet despite his not answering, Maya then asked him to continue playing, which he obliged. However as he was in the middle of his performance, a stranger burst in through the door. As he demanded something from Otoya, he was stopped in his tracks as Maya stood and slapped the stranger across the face.
Later in the day as Maya caught Otoya slugging the stranger, she appeared telling him to stop. After she told him that his hands were for the fine arts and not for dirtying in combat, she carried the stranger away to another location. As he awoke, she asked if the stranger had been following her lately. After implying that if he was in love with her, she then went on to ask why people fall in love. However as he claimed that he did not love, Maya lost interest and decided to leave. But as she was leaving, the stranger asked her to stop. As he pulled out a string of buttons, he presented her with the one he claimed was the first of his collection as a Bounty Hunter, believing it to be a good luck charm. As she took it, they were then made aware of the presence of the Cicada Fangire. As he reminded her of her duties, he inquired as to why she was wasting her time having a painting done of herself. As she felt bad for her envoy for not having any appreciation for the fine arts, the stranger then asked if she was indeed a Fangire. Not answering, she left it up to him to figure it out as she walked off to resume her work.
Sometime later as Maya apparently found Otoya napping in the middle of an amusement park, she decided to play his violin, which woke him. After she asked if he disproved with her ability to play, he told her to continue. Playing on further, it became apparent to Otoya that Maya had copied his own tune. As she told him she learned the violin from Studying Vivaldi, Otoya commented her knowledge and ability to play. After she asked him why she was able to copy his tune, claiming that he should be able to figure it out since he was the kind of genius violinist to come every 100 years, Otoya bragging every 1000, she noticed his finger injury. Telling him to take better care of his hands, she blew on it lightly just before leaving.

Later on Maya decided to return to Doran to see her infant son, Taiga. As she entered the throne room, Maya inquired as to where Bishop was. Kurosawa, faithfully looking over her son, claimed that he was out on business. Understanding Bishop's duty to maintain how the Fangire populace acts, Maya thought nothing more of his whereabouts. After picking up her son and embracing him for a few seconds, She then requested Kurosawa perform a task for her: To always protect her and King's precious son, which he nobly obliged. Proclaiming that even if it meant the sacrifice of his life.
Later on As Maya was making her way out an indoor parking lot, she ran into Otoya again, asking if he figured out why she was able to copy his tune. As he casually claimed that he didn't like homework, he asked her to tell him why. However before she could, they both noticed a tall stranger standing behind them. After as he warned Otoya to stay away from her, he revealed himself to be a surviving member of the Franken race. After Maya reverted to her true form, the Franken managed to push her back some. As she then pushed him back, she then bludgeoned him with her pearls, forcing his retreat. As she assumed her guise, she noticed Otoya in shock and asked him if there was a problem.
As they made their way through the neighborhood, Otoya expressed his surprise on Maya being a Fangire. As he claimed that he was unsure how to take in how the one person in the world who understands him is a monster, Maya claimed that to her, Humans were the monsters. Curious, Maya openly wondered if this meant that he would have to kill her before getting the answer as to why she was able to copy his tune. Proclaiming that he wouldn't fight her, he then asked for the answer. When she pointed out his violin, she claimed it didn't suit him, that it couldn't help him realize his full potential. As Otoya told her that someone said that he would one day obtain a special violin for himself that better suited him, he claimed he saw no way to get one as he lacked the kind of funds necessary for a superb quality violin. However Maya claimed that they'd make one. When Otoya expressed skepticism, Maya reassured him that they could as she claimed that even though she looked so young, she studied the violin directly under Stradivari 300 years ago.
Arriving back at Doran to see her son, Kurosawa inquired if it was alright for the Queen to take an interest in Humans. After taking her son into her arms, Maya claimed that she was just inspecting them. As she placed Taiga on the throne, with Sagarc floating above, she went on to say that it was important for the Queen to know what Humans are like.
The next day as they started the production of his new violin, Otoya expressed that he'd like to have it completed quickly, however Maya thought otherwise. As she claimed that what they were making was no ordinary violin, that it was something they needed to pour their souls into and couldn't be rushed.

Sometime later, after days of making his new violin with Maya, she purposed they take a break, despite being so close to completion. When Maya returned, she stopped Otoya from playing it. As she told him that it wasn't complete just yet, she claimed that one more piece was needed. As he was unaware of what it was, Maya claimed that a wish was needed. Hearing this, Otoya then began to play the newly constructed violin. As she observed him playing, able to tell that is wish was inserted within the violin Maya claimed it to be complete. Just as Otoya finished, he then immediately decided on a name, The Bloody Rose.
To celebrate the completion of the Bloody Rose, Otoya treated Maya to a fancy restaurant. As he expressed his gratitude in her helping him create his new violin, he proclaimed that he had already found his woman of destiny, and that it would be the last time he and Maya would meet. Amused yet curious, Maya asked Otoya if he had it in him to stay true to those words, especially since he promised her a private concert. Keeping true to his promise, Otoya then decided to play for her an entirely new song he had created for her.
Later in the day after parting ways with Otoya, she came across the Rat Fangire attempting to kill Yuri. Before he could make his strike, Maya hurled a weak ball of energy at the Rat. After he recognized her, he demanded to know why she interfered. When Maya claimed that since she was taking something more precious than life itself from Yuri, she claimed that there was no need to kill her. But as the Rat believed this to be fruitless triviality, he decided to go ahead with killing her anyway. Yet again before he could strike the Human, Maya pulled him towards her and pinned him down. After scolding him for defying her, despite his lowly status as a Fangire, she left.
After the surprise of King's arrival, he immediately questioned her if she was acquainted with the Human, Kurenai Otoya. Responding that she did, King claimed that he had heard that she was exceptionally involved with him and asked if it was true. When she asked that what if she was, King then immediately drew the Zanvat sword at her. Yet after a seconds pause, he cast the great sword into the wall. Maya inquired if it was alright to do that, to be without the most powerful sword in the world. As King went on to explain, he claimed that if he had the Zanvat, he'd kill her. And that if he killed her, it would mean he loved her, and that was not in the least bit what he wanted. As King took hold of Maya's neck, using his tattoo to burn her, she amusingly asked if he was upset. Not in the mood for her attitude, he claimed that he heard from Bishop about Otoya. As he stated that Otoya was apart of an Organization that hunted Fangires and used a system called IXA to fight them, he claimed that he was a dangerous adversary. With that said, Maya claimed that Otoya was her prey, reassuring him with her word as Queen.
Later on, Maya appeared before Bishop as he played a pipe organ in a church. As she stated that betraying her word of trust wasn't something to be proud of, Bishop replied asking if fraternizing with a Human was something of such. As Bishop claimed that once King found out about her excessive interaction with a Human, she'd be sent to Hell. Curious as to what kind of Hell, Maya asked. As Bishop claimed that it would be a living Hell, he stated that once her powers and status would be taken, his subordinates would then hunt her down for the rest of her days.
Sometime later after having a conversation Yuri interrupted by the last survivors of th Wolfen, Merman and Franken races in retaliation for King attacking them, Maya approached Yuri, inquiring as to what she was going to ask her about earlier. However instead, Yuri was on her guard. When Yuri formally introduced herself, and Maya did the same, Yuri drew the IXA Knuckle for activation. However before she could attach it to the belt, Otoya appeared, proposing they all go on a picnic. However as Yuri shook him off, Maya decided to disappear for a while.
Later on after meeting back with Otoya, he asked her to pay no attention to Yuri and to avoid any kind of fighting with her. As Maya claimed that she wouldn't take Yuri's life, for she had already taken something more valuable, Otoya asked what that would be. However just like before, Maya left it up to him to figure it out.

Later in the day after looking, Yuri finally crossed paths with Maya once again. After seemingly walking past her, Yuri then drew her dagger in an attempt to strike Maya. However as she dodged it and every other move Yuri made, including throwing it at her, Yuri then activated the IXA System. However even despite with the system's aiding Yuri, Maya was easily dodged every kick and punch Yuri made. As she demanded to know why Maya wasn't fighting back, she simply told Yuri that she had no desire to kill her. Not believing it, Yuri still tried to attack until Maya vanished into a large gust of flower petals.
Sometime later as Maya found Yuri in Otoya's home just before she attempted to play the Bloody Rose, she told Yuri to stop. As she asked her to hand it over, Yuri demanded that May fight her, or else she'd destroy the Bloody Rose. After commenting on that Yuri wasn't her cheeky self as usual, she activated IXA and attacked. after placing the violin down in a safe place, Maya accepted the inevitability of the situation, reverted to her true form and threw Yuri through a door outside.
As the scuffle went on, they were soon interrupted by King. After he he quickly dispatched Yuri, forcing her to retreat, Otoya arrived and inquired as to what had happened. not interested in curretn events, King asked why he had involved himself with Maya, the Queen of the Fangires. After King announced himself to Otoya, Otoya then unexpectedly claimed that he was in love with Maya. As he was amused, King claimed it was impossible for Humans and Fangires to be with one another. However Otoya didn't see it that way and claimed that it didn't matter if they were Fangire or Human. That what was important was what was inside, he claimed that Maya heard his inner music, that she truly understood him. And that he can hear Maya's inner music as well.
As they took their confrontation to an abandoned warehouse, King ordered Maya to kill Otoya, but made no motion to do so. Thinking she sided with the Humans, King then claimed that Otoya had the divine honor of being sent to hell by none other than himself. With that, Otoya immediately drew the IXA Knuckle and fired an excess energy blast at King. However he deflected it with a dark energy wave of his own, sending Otoya flying back. As Maya rushed to his side, screaming his name, inadvertently making her feelings for Otoya apparent as she cried on the spot. As King made the motion to finish off Otoya, King had apparently been subject to an attempted ambush by the last of the Wolfen race. However after King quickly dealt with the Wolfen, Otoya stormed up to King, despite Maya trying to hold him back. Enraged over what King did to the other monster, Otoya activated IXA and charged at King.
Easily deflecting Otoya's drop kick, King rendered Otoya unconscious after shocking him with energy bolts and throwing him against a wall. Despite Yuri appearin and trying to defend Otoya, she was easily hit away. As she got to her feet, King lifted Otoya with one hand and told Maya that he'd finish up with Otoya in a more convenient location. With that, Yuri tried to attack again, but was held back by Maya. leaving her to do nothing but watch as the man vanished with an unconscious Otoya.
Later on, Maya stood too herself in a church admiring the stain glass windows, Yuri approached her. Asking where Otoya was taken to, Maya simply replied that it'd be better for the both of them in the long run if they just forget about what'd happened with Otoya. However Yuri had no intention of doing so and flat out asked Maya for help to rescue him. But unfortunately Maya was not in the same spirits, claiming that any action against King was futile. As Yuri continued to plea, Maya asked why she was so concerned, despite that Otoya betrayed her. After Yuri claimed that she still had love for Otoya, and didn't want to discard those feelings, Maya simply walked away.
Sometime later, as Yuri prepared to rescue Otoya, Maya appeared at the door, asking her if she was prepared to die. As Yuri nodded, Maya simply thought of her as foolish. Later on, as Maya led Yuri though an oddly colored forest, The Forest of Bewilderment. She warned Yuri to be on her guard as the forest had a guardian, and that she was unable to revert to her true form while in the forest.
As they progressed, the two eventually noticed that they had been walking in circles after noticing the same landmark in the ground. As a voice claimed that entrance into the forest was not allowed unless it pleased, it soon revealed itself to be the Silkmoth Fangire. As Yuri seemed to have had a difficult time facing off with her due to the illusions she projected, Maya then appeared between them as the Silkmoth then seemingly appeared to finish Yuri off personally. As she desired to know what Maya was up to, and Maya not saying, the Silkmoon decided to attack, thinking Maya's inability to return to her true form being an advantage. However Maya easily forced the Fangire to retreat after blasting her with energy emitted from her tattoo. Although grateful for Maya's assistance, Yuri requested that she not help anymore.

Making their way further through the forest, Maya began to hear the song that Otoya had written for her. As Yuri seemed unable to hear anything, she never the less continued to follow Maya. After finding and entering Doran, they arrived just before King as about to deliver the death blow. As King once again became Kiva, claiming Maya had lost her pride as a Fangire, and Maya reverting to her true form, the two did battle. Easily being defeated by her husband, King asked one last time if she was truly in love with Otoya. Assuming her Human disguise, she paused, and then finally confessed that she did, more than anyone else. Displeased with her words, King immediately removed her powers as Queen and sealed her abilities as a Fangire. Locking her in her Human disguise till the end of her days, he claimed that she wasn't worth being mentioned as a Fangire any longer, and was more among the likes of a wondering spirit.
Sometime later, sapped of all her strength and restrained to her Human disguise, Maya tried to keep herself on the move. However that proved difficult with the presence of the Poler Bear Fangire. As he proclaimed his anxiousness to kill her, Maya tried to get to Otoya. However as the other Fangire mercilessly beat Maya down, he was soon wareded off by Yuri.
After being taken to another location, Maya confessed that she had lost her power. Unsure of what to do with herself, Yuri proposed she go to Otoya. And with that, Otoya soon came, just after Yuri had told Maya that she called him. When he finally arrived, and Yuri left, Otoya asked her if she was willing to live together with him. After Maya accepted, Otoya then asked her if she remembered his promise he made to her about the private concert. As Maya recalled that he did that for her already, Otoya insisted that he would then on hold one for her every night. After saying that, a stranger came along, and dragged Yuri along with him. As he claimed that Maya and Otoya couldn't be with one another, he claimed that he was their son, and that he wasn't supposed to be born. As Otoya openly expressed his thinking this to be complete rubbish, the stranger once again begged them to not meet with one another any more. As Otoya speculated that it was all just a trick set up by the Fangires, the stranger insisted that if he wasn't born then someone wouldn't die. Still thinking it was a lie, Otoya asked him why he was already grown up if he was his son. Claiming that he was from twenty-two years from then, he then tried to back his claim by showing him a button Maya supposedly gave him when he was little. Not believing it, Otoya punched the guy unconscious. As he and Maya walked on, Otoya commented on how there were such strange people in the world. However, Maya was not as skeptical as she pointed out the button the stranger showed was exactly like the one another stranger gave her.
Later on, Maya sought out the stranger. Finding him in a local playground, Maya claimed that she felt that she could feel the mix between Human and Fangire in him. Willing to believe that the stranger was who he claimed to be, the moment was soon cut short as they were then met with the Poler Bear Fangire. Standing to protect his mother, stranger soon found himself hit away from the monster. As the Fangire went on to strangle her, the Poler Bear was then forced off of her by a member of the Kivat race and a Wyvern. After being pushed back to safety, the stranger then, much to Maya's surprise, transformed into a lesser form of Kiva. As the stranger held off the Fangire, he told her to run. Making some distance, Maya then soon crossed paths with King, with Taiga in his arms. After he asked if she was going to see Otoya, it seemed he encouraged her to go and love whomever she wished. However, despite what he said, he stated that should she ever go to see Otoya again, he would kill Taiga. Proclaiming that he didn't need anything from anyone who shared the blood of a traitor, eve if that someone was his own son.
With that, Maya asked Kivat Bat II to deliver the message to Otoya that she couldn't see him again. However after Kivat returned, it seemed Otoya followed him, and asked her why they couldn't. Soon enough though, their son, Wataru, eventually arrived there as well, saying the same things he had before. As she agreed with Wataru, telling them about King and Taiga, As Otoya claimed that he would rescue Taiga. After he stated that if Taiga was her son, than he was his as well, Maya claimed it to be impossible to go against King. As she stated that King was unbeatable, Kivat, proposed the idea of Otoya using him. However Maya was against it, stating that if a Human were to become Kiva, they'd die. But as Otoya proclaimed that he couldn't think of any other ideas, Maya then asked Wataru to help. As she said that he had the powers of Kiva as well, he might stand a chance at beating King. However Otoya was opposed to it, and claimed that he'd rescue Taiga.
Later in the day as she ran into Otoya, she notice he seemed weak and stumbled as he walked. After she gave him a hug, she asked him if he ignored her warning and actually did transform into Kiva. As he cleaimed she was overreacting, he said that he was as fine as he could be. However Maya stated that he didn't know what he was doing, and if he transformed again he'd die for sure. As he asked her if she was ready to be with him, Otoya claimed that he was was also ready to sacrifice himself for those he cares for. After asking her to inherit his will, his meaning to live, she understood what he wanted and stood aside, allowing him to pass.

However, despite what he wanted her to have, Maya felt it wasn't her to hold. With this, she sought out Wataru. After finding him, she tried to beg him to help Otoya at the risk of his death. Proclaiming that he was the one who needed to inherit Otoya's will instead of herself, he finally agreed. After heading to Doran, but remaining outside, Maya waited until Wataru came back out of Doran with Taiga in his arms. However, just as Wataru exited Doran, a Sabbat, summoned by King as he fought Otoya, attached itself to Doran and took control. After Wataru brought Taiga to Maya and found cover from Doran's blasts, he went off and took care of the Sabbat, freeing Doran.
Watching on as King had beaten Otoya down, and Wataru coming to his side. After Wataru attacked King, he too was soon beaten down. When Otoya got back up to his feet, he revealed and activated IXA. Watching on still as the fight had moved, Wataru came and tried to fight King again. As King once again showed his superiority in battle. Otoya called for Kivat one last time, despite Maya and Wataru's protests. After he transformed into Kiva, the two of them each tried to attack King. Despite their physical might, each trying to go for the Fangire seemed to be futile. After the both of them had been pushed back, they then started to attack King simultaneously. After knocking King back, Otoya managed to keep King still with the insignia trap. With this, father and son then readied their respective finishers. Landing their kicks on King in unison, it seemed that the battle had ended.
As King had a hard time rising to his feet, he noticed Maya standing by with Taiga in her arms. Proclaiming that she belonged to him, he requested that she go to hell along with him. With that, he let out a blast of energy from his tattoo at Maya. However, unexpectedly, Taiga had somehow reflected the blast back at King. After he stepped back some due to the force of the blast, King was pleased by this. Reveling in and stating the fact that his son had now ascended to King, he proclaimed that Taiga would one day kill all of them. And with those last words, King broke up and shattered into hundreds of pieces.
With Otoya collapsing, Wataru brought him over to somewhere to sit. After he set Otoya, they started to notice Wataru's hand dispersing. As Otoya deduced that it was time for Wataru to be leaving Maya and Otoya told him not to worry. After Otoya claimed that he was going to take his life easy form then on, Wataru didn't quite understand how. Claiming that he still didn't know what to do with himself, Otoya asked him if he heard the wish that he put into the Bloody Rose. As Wataru claimed that he did, and even put the same wish into it himself, he asked how he was supposed to hear the music of people. After Otoya told him Wataru to think for himself and not depend on him, Wataru finally disappeared. With him gone, Maya chided Otoya for acting the way he did, despite the pain he was in. However, Otoya defended himself, claiming he couldn't allow himself to not look tough for his own son.
Sometime later, as they both knew that the time was very near, Otoya stood over a grill in a local park. Serving Maya an omelet, Otoya proclaimed that above anything else, his love should show through all the way till the end. As both of them knew what that was, they stepped away from their picnic. As he played the song he wrote for her, they each listened to not only the music he played, but the music inside each other. Even after he stopped playing, they still listened to one another, even as he lie on her lap. And like this they stayed, even after Otoya had finally passed on.
The Fallen Former Queen

After spending years in the cave she now lurks, striped of her title, power and status, Maya was approached by a young woman who acknowledged her as Queen, much to her amusement. After she remarked that it'd been a while since she was referred to as such, the young woman, Suzuki Mio, proclaimed that she wished to cease being the Queen. When Mio begged to Maya to quit, she claimed it wasn't possible for her since it wasn't her that picked Mio, but the power of the Queen itself. As Mio expressed her disbelief, the former Queen openly speculated that perhaps Mio was infatuated with a human. As she claimed that was the very reason why her power was taken, she also claimed that she didn't regret it despite the pain it caused her in the past, and asked Mio if she could brave that pain as well.
Sometime later, Maya received yet another unexpected visit. This time from her old comrade, Bishop. As he went right to the point, he asked her if she knew of the young man named Kurenai Wataru. Going on to state that Wataru had killed many of their kind, Bishop claimed that Maya was the only one who could've possibly given him the power of Kiva. After he recalled the very reason her powers and status were taken from her, because of loving a Human. Bishop theorized that they must have sired a child, and with that child, she bequeathed him Kiva.
Later on as she stared into small fire, Maya noticed someone approaching her. After trying to discern who it was, she finally recognized the individual as her eldest son, Taiga. As he commented on how long it'd been since they'd saw one another and how much he disliked her, Taiga proclaimed his desire to ask her something. As he asked her if she had a child with the Human who caused her treachery, she didn't answer. Irritated by her silence, Taiga removed his glove and strangled her. Causing the King tattoo on his palm to burn her as he demanded she answer him as an order of the King. This action, caused her to be reminded of her late husband and Taiga's father.
Afterward as Maya filled a wine bottle with water from a stream, she was approached by the Mantis Fangire. After he commented on how much she had fallen, how she use to be refered to as "The Glittering Darkness" but such baeuty had since extinguished, he proclaimed himself her executioner. Using his necromancy, he seemingly revived a Warthog Fangire from his coffin and sent him after Maya. Luckily after running a short way, Maya was able to evade death through hiding.
Later on as she sat over a small campfire again in her cave, someone walked in. After this person immediately referred to her as "mother", Maya immediately deduced that it was Wataru. After he had embraced her, he asked where she was all those years and why she never came to see him. After remembering back to the day when she left him to live in Otoya's house, she pushed him away, telling him that he shouldn't be near her. When Taiga and Mio then walked in, referring to her as his mother in front of Wataru, Wataru's confusion was then apparent. Taiga then claimed that he and Wataru were siblings. After Wataru asked Maya if it was true, Taiga explained that she used to be the former Fangire Queen. As he then claimed that Wataru had the blood of a Fangire through Maya, and that Taiga himself was a Fangire, the Mantis Fangire then appeared. As he summoned more previously vanquished Fangires and then vanished, Taiga tried to order them to withdraw, but was for naught. After realizing that there was no point in words, Taiga and Wataru each transformed and engaged the rouge Fangires. As they kept the other Fangires distracted, Mio escorted Maya away from the battlefield.
Sometime later, after being chased by The Mantis once again and being rescued by Wataru, Taiga once again visited Maya. Telling her that he intended Wataru to live as a Fangire, he claimed that she should be happy about it. As it was the only sensible path for Wataru to take, Taiga reassured her that he'd be cared for properly. Afterward, Taiga then wished to know something else. Deducing that she still had it, Taiga asked when she would relinquish the power of Dark Kiva to him as it's rightful possessor. As she paused for a moment, he then asked if she was actually considering giving them to Wataru, despite that they rightfully belong to the King, to him. Acknowledging that, Maya simply claimed that it would happen when that time would come. With that, Taiga proposed that the time would be when he would be married to Queen. Asking if she accepted the deal, she went along with it. Before he left, Taiga even invited her to the wedding, but warned her to stay out of the sight of other guests still interested in killing her.
